October!

It has been a great start to October! The students have been working very hard on following directions and our expectations!

Language Arts

For our language arts, we are working on sounding out 3-sounded words using our Fundations boards. We are also working on which vowel sounds makes that middle sound. 

Reading

For reading, we are FINALLY working independently in small groups! I have four groups, and we switch after 15-20 minutes! The four groups usually consist of meeting with me, writing longer sentences, computer time and language arts tubs to help focus on our sight words! The students sure have grow TREMENDOUSLY with being able to follow directions, working on the expectations, and growing in their learning! 

Math

For math this week, we are working on subtraction, and soon we we will be correlating subtraction and addition strategies to solve problems! The students are becoming PROS!

Science

For science, we have finished up our first unit on animals! Together, we are going to fill out an animal report on snakes! We are going to work on reading some non-fiction texts to pull information from and fill it out correctly on our reports! Then, after we have mastered this, we are going to create our own animal reports on an animal of our own choosing! I can't wait to see what animals our students are going to be looking at!

Social Studies

We are still looking at communities and how we can help our community. We are also reading Scholastic news on Thursdays! So ask your son or daughter about the exciting details of this weeks stories! 

New This Week 

We have a special art guest who will be coming in on Wednesdays. Her name is Ms. Madi, and she is going to school for art therapy! She needs to complete 40-50 hours of volunteer time and she is teaching art to kindergarten, first grade, and second grade! The students are SUPER excited to have her teach art as I have tried to teach art, and let's just say, that is not my strong suit! I do try however!

    12th - Mass 8:15am 4k-3rd grade/ All School's Mass at 10am for 4th and 5th grades at Holy Spirit.  

    13th - St. Edward Day!

    15th - Bus Safety in am

    17th - K and 1st Grade to Mulberry Lane Farms 9:00am-2:45 pm

    19th - Mass 8:15am

    24th - Mass 8:15am; K - 5th to Xavier Play in am

    25th - No 4k Today!!  Early release at 11:30am; NO AFTERCARE!!

    26th - NO SCHOOL!!
