Tuesday April 7, 2020

Welcome to day two! I am missing you guys! Comment below letting me know you attended today! (If you can't comment, feel free to email me)

JUST A REMINDER--since we had Easter Break coming up, we only have online learning till tomorrow, Wednesday. Then we will pick it back up on Tuesday! (We would have had off from April 9-13) Any questions, let me know!

Math:

Practice playing this ABCYA game again! We played this yesterday!
Watch my youtube video, then complete the pages in your GREEN math book!(Pages 177-178)

Writing/Phonics:

Take yesterdays poem--THE BIG BLACK BUG and underline ALL the words that start with the letter B.

Vowel Teams Poster 1-2
These are the vowel team partners/patterns.
Feel free to use these images to help the students!
 For PHONICS (long A sound):
Today we are working with ai/ay long vowel sounds!
AI--bait--/a/ (long vowel a says its name)
AY-play--/a/ (long vowel a says its name)---always at the end of the word for this spelling pattern!

We have worked on adding an a_e where we realize that the E becomes silent, but it has a special job and it changes the other vowel sound to SAY his name!

PARENTS:

Here we are going to use our clear packet/form here. They can use their dry-erase markers on the clear packet and just practice the words that you are giving them! If they don't spell it correct, just correct them and have them write the word again the correct way, but as long as they are trying to solve it with the long-a pattern.

Here are some ai/ay/a_e spelling patterns! They really dive into this in second grade! As first grade students, we introduce and try to master just understanding the patterns!

You can read the words, and have them PRACTICE spelling them! They DO NOT have to master this skill, they just have to be able to read them as long a (says its name) pattern! They really do get into the spelling patterns NEXT year, we are just introducing the concept!

GYM: (From Miss LeClair)

Hello kids, Hope you all are doing well.
Here is the gym activities for the week. Let's get moving and shaking for about 10 minutes a day.

-- Let's start by putting on your favorite music and move and dance. Get our heart rate up and dance for 2-3 songs. Maybe by the end of the week you can make up your own dance.

-- After you get done moving with the dance please stretch and do your 8 push-ups and 16 crunches.

Have fun, and stay active. Miss LeClair

Reading:

Students, please read for 20 minutes! If you do not have any books in your level, check out RAZKIDS. I sent home a letter on Thursday to show how to login so you can gain some access. There is a tool on there to help ME assess if you're reading it, I assigned each of you a book to read out loud and answer questions after.

Parents, below is some reading tips that would help your child become more in-depth with their reading skills. The questions below help them to "think" about what they are "thinking" about when it comes to reading.

For Some Reading Tips:

Engage with your child by asking these questions before, during, and after reading a variety of texts.
Before
  • What do you think this book will be about? Why do you think that?
  • What does the title tell you about this book?
  • What do you already know about the topic of this book?
  • What questions do you have?
  • Do you think this story is real or imaginary?
  • Who is the author of this book?
During
  • What do you think will happen next?
  • Why do you think . . . ?
  • Where and when does this story take place?
  • How do you think the character will handle this situation?
  • Why is the character . . . ?
  • What does this word mean? How do you know?
After
  • How would you retell this story, including parts from the beginning, the middle, and the end?
  • What questions would you ask the author?
  • What do you think are the most important events in the story?
  • How did this character change throughout the story?
  • How would you have solved the problem?

  • Art:
  • Don't forget to check out Seesaw for the Easter Egg project! I am hoping parents can login, but I have found out that it was not that easy! So please email me, I will give you a code that expires in an hour (for safety reasons) and then you can easily upload/see the assignments! See we are all still learning and playing around with this!
