Thanksgiving Week--Jumping Into December

Thank you parents for being some amazing parents to all the kiddos! I am BEYOND lucky to have you on my team to help your child to grow and learn to love reading! Even on days where learning is a tad tough!

Coming up these next few weeks are all exciting things! No Christmas play this year, but that is ok! It gives the students' more time in the classroom to work on fun Christmas craft projects that I hope to create!

LUNCH--

From 11/30/20-12/11/20 it is COLD LUNCH only! So PLEASE pack your child something for lunch! Mrs. Brockman is out for those two weeks! On December 14, we will resume hot lunch at St. Edward's. We apologize for any inconvenience however please remember to send them to school with a yummy lunch! They will not have access to a microwave either.

Grammar/Reading/Phonics

For grammar, we have just finished up our unit on verbs! Action verbs more specifically and we listened to Jack Hartmann on youtube about them! We danced in the classroom, we wrote our own action verbs, it was an exciting time to be alive!
For the next two weeks, we are going to be working on subject/verb agreement!

Reading, we are going to continue to meet in small groups to further our comprehension of our stories! I would LOVE for you to continue on your way with reading them at home also! I send home the same book 2 or 3 times with different focus skill on each day! Feel free to ask your child what we worked on in the classroom and I am hoping they can help answer that! In Januaray, I will reassess all the students' reading levels and praying that they get to move up!

If your son or daughter would like some extra time to focus on reading skills-they know how to work on eSpark!  You will head to espark.app and type in their name and the password is BEAM. This comes through on my end ALSO and it tells me what they worked on and if they need more help to be successful with is!

Phonics have been going great! They have worked on ck/wr/kn diagraphs, and we just finished up r-controlled vowels! Next week we are going to be working on l-blends.

Math

For math, we just finished up our unit on adding and subtracting story problems! Students will always struggle with this as some of them can not always read the words or figure out what number is missing, and my goal is for them recheck their work! Did it make sense? Was I missing the total or a number partner? Do I add to solve this?

All those math questions help your child gain a deeper understanding of math and that is what drives them to dig deeper into solving the problem! I know from a parent stand point that watching our child write down the wrong answers is disheartening, but TRUST me, once you have them go back and double check their work, they start to think about those deeper questions and will be able to move on from there!

What we are jumping into next week is going to be about teen numbers addition and subtraction strategies! We will look at how we add and subtract in our teen numbers using regrouping also!

Social Studies and Science

For science coming up, we are going to be taking a little break from science for the month of December to fit in our Holidays Around the World unit in social studies! We will be making up science in January with fun experiments and learning about the moon!

As I stated earlier for social studies, we are going to be focusing on Holiday's around the world since we just wrapped up our unit on Families from Long Ago and Today!

Religion

We are going to be focusing on Advent and Christmas for most of December! My friends are very good with asking tons of questions about what is going on and what advent has to do with Christmas! How exciting for me to be able to share such a special time with my students! They are eager to jump into our advent season!

Thanksgiving News

My students' were so worried about turkeys being eaten as a Thanksgiving special, so they had a task of hiding turkeys into something else! Check them out and see if you can figure out what they are disguised as!

We have the following options:
